THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE T-AO 191 AT PENNSYLVANIA SHIPBUILDING

In the summer of 1985, Pennsylvania Shipbuilding Company was awarded a contract from the Navy to build two T-AO 187 class fleet oilers, T-AO 191 and T-AO 192. Subsequently, orders for two additional ships in the same series were received. The contracted delivery date was March 1989, with follow ships to be delivered at nine-month intervals. This paper describes the ships and the shipyard. It also presents highlights of the construction process to date, with special emphasis on the use of imported technology. Particulars of the T-AO ship are provided in an Appendix.
