New developments in the design of a marine evacuation slide system made by the RFD Company in the UK are described. First introduced in 1980, the system can achieve dryshod, safe vessel evacuation for large numbers of people. It can be operated by only four crew, far less than the number required for conventional lifesaving appliances. One design improvement is a 100-person-capacity liferaft and another is the provision of an aluminum-runged ladder that can be lowered along the length of the slide to permit personnel to regain access to the vessel if required.
