THE ROLE OF REFRIGERATED SHIPS IN THE ECONOMIC OPERATION OF AN EFFECTIVE COLD CHAIN
The impact of the large scale transportation of refrigerated foodstuffs has virtually revolutionized the economic activities of many nations. There has been remarkable growth in the intercontinental movement of foodstuffs, culminating in the ultimate: door-to-door delivery from producer to consumer. The author describes the growth of this global cold chain, and the role played by reefer ships in the economics of the chain. The evolution and development of reefer ships are described, and other elements of the cold chain are also highlighted.
