A diesel additive package containing a detergent was tested on a high speed IDI Nissan diesel engine fitted with a set of used fuel injectors. The diesel sprays from the injectors before and after the test showed improvement in quality owing to the additive. Dynamometer test results revealed the progressive improvement of engine performance in terms of fuel consumption and soot emission. The effectiveness of the additive was so rapid that changes were observed within hours of the continuous test at half engine load and high engine speed. With the aid of the additive, the injectors could be cleaned of deposits and kept clean. Better fuel consumption, cleaner exhaust gas and less maintenance on injectors could be achieved.
