SITMAR CRUISES' DIESEL-ELECTRIC CRUISE SHIP NEWBUILDINGS
This paper deals with Sitmar Cruises' newbuilding program and describes the principal features of its three new ships that are being built in France and Italy. The ships are the first of a new generation of diesel-electric passenger cruise ships now being constructed for various owners and they represent a major change of direction for Sitmar in terms of ship design. A complete and detailed description of the ship is beyond the scope of the paper, but some of the more interesting and innovative areas of the machinery plant are covered in depth. A summary of the reasoning behind some of the technical decisions taken is given.
