The cassette cargo handling concept, first introduced by Finncarriers on its Finland/Germany service, is gaining ground. It now has its first application outside of Finland in the plans of Stora to use it to restructure its entire forest product export traffic. This article gives a detailed description of the cassette system and includes several photographs. It also discusses problems and constraints, such as that of determining the ideal tire to use, and the strength of ro/ro ship decks in relation to cassette loads in excess of 75 tons.
