LATEX ADDITIVE RETARDS SLUMP LOSS IN CONCRETE DURING HAUL

A patented process is described for eliminating slump loss in ready-mix-concrete during haul by adding a small amount of latex to the mix. The process extends hauls to 45 mins from the normal 30. The addition of 0.1 to 0.25 percent of latex by weight of cement held slump loss of 1/2 in. over 30 minutes, while untreated portland cement concrete would loss 3 to 4 in. or slump during the same period. Latex admixtures have been used in large quantities to improve the durability of hardened concrete. The new process requires only small modifications in admixtures on the market to cut slump reductions.
