ADVANTAGES OF NICKEL ALLOYS

It is shown how the special qualities of nickel-containing alloys-- particularly their high corrosion resistance--makes these alloys superior materials for numerous shipboard applications. Although the initial cost for nickel alloy appears higher than that for carbon steel, that cost has risen less rapidly than that for carbon steel, plastics and aluminum, and far less rapidly than labor costs. In real terms, the cost of nickel alloys has therefore actually declined. Taken together with their improved properties, this points to their growing use in the future.
