SOME FACTORS INFLUENCING THE BEHAVIOUR OF EMBEDDED ANCHORS

Embedded anchor systems are fully buried systems. They develop restraint forces through interaction with sea bed material and are extremely efficient in comparison with alternative anchoring systems. Small movements mobilize restraint, which can be important for complex and expensive fixed offshore facilities or in congested waters. This article examines some factors influencing the performance of such systems. Its sections and appendices cover: available anchor systems, response to loading, some thoughts on design, installation methods, and a method (the Winkler model) used for the numerical analysis of pile anchors subject to lateral or axial loading.
