INTERACTIVE FLEXURAL-TORSIONAL BUCKLING BEHAVIOUR OF STIFFENED PLATING

Results are presented from a group of studies of stiffened plates under axial compression. The large-deflection elastoplastic behavior of each panel is expressed by the von Karman equations, allowing lateral-torsional stiffener buckling to be rigorously modeled. The von Mises yield criterion is used in conjunction with the Prandtl- Reuss flow rule to represent material nonlinearity. Results are shown in the form of average stress-strain curves that are used to generate maximum strength curves for the stiffener and plate.
