Argentina is one of the most productive of all grain producing nations, yet its export infrastructure is among the most expensive and inefficient in the world. In an ambitious plan to improve port efficiency and expand overall exports, the port of Bahia Blanca is being developed into a major deep water grain export facility. Macdonald Wagner Pty., Limited, in association with a consortium of local consulting engineering companies, recently completed the detailed design of the total project, which is to be financed by the World Bank and is valued in excess of 200 million dollars (U.S.). This paper describes the wharf and shiploading facilities developed for Bahia Blanca, which when completed, will make that port one of the world's foremost grain export facilities.
