A STUDY ON MECHANICAL MECHANISM AND PREVENTING SCHEME OF ENDCRACKING IN AUTOMATIC ONE SIDED WELDING

The appearance of cracks in the weld line near the ends of joints welded using one-sided automatic welding is a phenomenon that has been studied for some time. The main preventive measure adopted is that of restraining the opening displacement of the end weld joints by using a sealing bead. In this method, the backing bead at the end of the weld joints is sometimes incomplete and has to be repaired. The authors analyze the opening displacement of the end tack weld under a moving line heat source and propose a suitable slitting tab plate for decreasing displacement and absorbing dynamic effects. The method was applied to actual weld joints in the welding process for large-sized plates.
