FURTHER CONSIDERATIONS ON MATHEMATICAL MANOEUVRING MODELS

Computer simulations based on mathematical models are used for the prediction of ship maneuverability. Empirical methods are available for the determination of the hydrodynamic characteristics in these models. Up to the present time, the derivation of the non-linear hydrodynamic coefficients by means of these empirical methods has not been very accurate. Since such non-linear coefficients significantly influence a ship's maneuverability, further research on the assessment of the non-linear terms has been carried out. This paper reports on some results of this research.
