DEVELOPMENT OF A NEW-TYPE HYDROFOIL CATAMARAN, 2ND REPORT: DESIGN OF A SYSTEM WITH FLAPS AND MOTION PROPERTIES

The hydrodynamic configuration of a hydrofoil catamaran equipped with flaps was designed. Despite the additional elements and the larger hydrofoil area, the resistance derived from towing tank tests showed the same order of magnitude as that of simpler models described in the first report. The flaps did extend the low- resistance speed range with high elevation of the hull. Ship motion tests in regular incident waves showed that heave and pitch transfer functions are on a much lower level than for other designs in current use.
