WORLDWIDE SURVEY AND CHARACTERIZATION OF COMMERCIAL MARINE FUELS

The David Taylor Naval Ship Research and Development Center carried out a survey of commercial marine fuels, using fuel samples obtained from numerous suppliers worldwide. Over 44 properties of each sample were analyzed and characterized in order to assess fuel quality. This paper summarizes the results of the analyses and compares them with refinery specifications, with Navy specifications, and with the results of a previous survey. Interpretation of the survey data and recommendations concerning specification requirements are presented.
