CAST IRON-BASE ALLOY 208--A MATERIAL FOR TURBO-CHARGER BLADES OF MARINE DIESEL ENGINES

A newly-developed high-temperature cast iron-base alloy is described. The material, Alloy 208, is primarily used for the blades of marine diesel turbochargers. It is also suitable for the manufacture of other marine power equipment components that require better hot corrosion resistance. Because of the operational requirements of turbocharger blades, alloy development focused on improving the properties of the material at medium temperatures. This paper presents the research results and covers the overall properties of the alloy. These properties include good castability and machinability, and amenability to processing by brazing and by argon arc welding.
