COMPARISON OF ACTUAL AND CALCULATED FUEL SAVINGS IN A SEAGOING WIND-ASSISTED SHIP

Seagoing cargo ships with auxiliary sails have been in operation long enough for data on specific fuel savings to be gathered and compared with calculations. This comparison, which this article discusses, is important for an obvious reason: it permits verification of the reliability--or unsuitability--of the calculation methods used during feasibility studies and design work to predict fuel savings for sail assisted vessels.
