BOUNDARY ELEMENT ANALYSIS OF NON-LINEAR SLOSHING PROBLEMS USING CUBIC ELEMENT

The boundary element method is extended to simulate the nonlinear sloshing of liquids in a two-dimensional tank. In the proposed method, higher-order elements (cubic elements) are used to improve the accuracy of numerical solutions by the discretization of the boundary integral equation. The details of the boundary element technique are described with reference to the formulation of the cubic elements. Several numerical examples are presented for liquid sloshing in circular and rectangular tanks subjected to forced surge oscillations. Results are compared with solutions obtained by the boundary element method using linear elements, and the usefulness of proposed the method is discussed.
