THE U.S. AND CANADIAN VIEW ON VTS
The approach of the United States and Canadian Coast Guards in providing vessel traffic services (VTS) is compared. Specific aspects of VTS that are considered in the comparison include: the history, organization and functions of VTS; the authority in which control of VTS is vested; equipment and capital projects in VTS programs; staffing, training, and qualifications for VTS personnel; and future plans for VTS programs. There is also a brief discussion of cooperative efforts between the Canadian and United States Coast Guards on vessel traffic services.
