SIMS '87
The papers contained in these proceedings concentrate almost entirely upon offshore platforms and the welding, corrosion and fatigue behavior of the steels used in their construction. The first four papers are those presented at review sessions that summarized, respectively, the status of major steels research programs in the European coal and steel community, the United Kingdom, Norway and Canada. Ten papers presented at plenary sessions follow these review papers and summarize and evaluate the major topics of the conference. Detailed coverage of these topics is found in the 57 technical papers that constitute the bulk of the proceedings. The categories of subjects that they cover are: fatigue design of offshore structures; the fatigue behavior of tubular joints; the size effect on the fatigue behavior of welded joints; the quality and toughness of materials; techniques for improving the fatigue behavior of welded joints; the effects of environment on the corrosion fatigue behavior of welded joints; fatigue loading; and crack propagation and fracture mechanics.
