The author discusses the savings that can accrue to shipowners if they are attentive and careful as to the wording of charter parties. Some of the matters touched upon are: time charters; specificity as to whether pilotage is compulsory; responsibility for the loading, unloading, stowage and trimming of cargo; clarification on the use of watchmen; hold cleaning responsibility; and a working definition of lagtime.
