DEVELOPMENT OF A 5000 METER REMOTE OPERATED VEHICLE FOR MARINE RESEARCH

The HYSUB 5000 is a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) designed specifically for scientific applications. This ROV uses optical fibers in the deep water umbilical cable to ensure high-level color video quality and high speed data transmission. It is capable of performing a wide variety of tasks that require large payloads and good manipulative ability. The paper describes the HYSUB development program and reports some observations from field trials of the vehicle.
