Offshore Systems Ltd (OSL) produced its first electronic chart system in 1979 and a fourth generation system is under development. This paper reviews the latest requirements for an electronic chart or integrated navigation system. A brief review of OSL's original Precise Navigation System through to its current Precise Integrated Navigation System (PINS) is presented, along with some specific PINS applications. OSL's recent developement of a Shipboard Integrated Navigation and Display System, SINADS, that upgrades PINS, is then discussed and unique system features are highlighted. The enhancements and developments required to produce a complete Electronic Chart Display System (ECDIS) are summarized.
