DRUG INTERDICTION: COMMAND AND CONTROL

This paper begins by describing a drug interdiction scenario typical of those encountered by the U.S. Coast Guard, the Customs Service, the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Border Patrol. It is then explained how the war on drugs constitutes a war whose importance to national security is on a par with that of national defense. A framework for drug interdiction command and control is then presented. Lastly, there is some discussion of the role of communications in drug interdiction and of the telecommunications solutions of the various agencies.
