The application of artificial beach nourishment is a widely used beach protection measure in northwestern Europe. Progress in both theoretical knowledge and numerical computation techniques has improved risk evaluation, so that now confidence in the economics of artificial nourishment projects rests on a more solid basis. This article describes various methods of implementation based on modern dredging technology. The financial consequences are considered, with particular regard to the impact of the characteristics of the fill material and the working method used.
