ELECTRONIC GOVERNOR FOR PARALLELING SHIP'S DIESEL AND PROP-SHAFT GENERATOR

The chief technical obstacle to a permanent connection between a synchronous generator mounted on the shaft of a ship's variable pitch propeller and diesel powered shipboard supply generators is instability caused by swell-induced propeller speed variations. This article describes how AEG's Marine Technology Division, in Hamburg, has developed a microprocessor-controlled electronic governor for ships' diesels and, based on this component, a new concept for controlling shipboard power generation.
