RESULTS OF TESTS ON AN AUTOMATIC SHIP STABILITY AND STRENGTH MONITORING SYSTEM

Leading classification societies are interested in the problem of developing automated systems to measure seaworthiness characteristics. One such system is described. Known as ASKOP and developed in the USSR, it determines actual ship trim, stability and strength characteristics. The results of a test prototype installation of the ASKOP system aboard the motorship VARNEMUNDE in 1984 confirmed the merits of the system and its potential as a means of effecting numerous economies in ship operation.
