PAMPAM--LONG TERM HARBOUR TRAFFIC FORECASTING: DEFINITION OF THE PROBLEM AND SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE

A two-phase application of artificial intelligence (AI) methods to long-term harbor traffic forecasting is described. The first phase consists of a definition of specific problems involved in traffic forecasting by breaking them down into subproblems, or 'generic tasks,' that represent actions performed by experts during the problem solving process. The second phase deals with the specification of the system architecture and the determination of the usefulness of AI techniques for achieving the desired goals.
