THE UNITED KINGDOM TRIALS OF THE SES 200

In 1986, the United States sent a surface effect ship, the SES 200, to the United Kingdom to participate in collaborative trial program. Trials were carried out in the UK to evaluate the following: seakeeping performance; track and position keeping; maneuverability; acoustic and magnetic ranging; sea loading; and crew performance under different vessel motion conditions. This report describes the various trials and summarizes the results obtained. An appraisal of living and work space habitability aboard the SES 200 was also conducted as part of the program.
