INVESTIGATION OF HYDRODYNAMIC CHARACTERISTICS OF A PLATE INTERSECTING THE FREE SURFACE IN SHALLOW WATER

The problem of qualitative and quantitative evaluation of the change in damping and added masses of a flat plate in shallow water at different Froude numbers is formulated and experimentally solved. Static drift angle tests of the plate and forced sway and yaw tests were carried out using planar motion mechanisms. The measured hydrodynamic forces are compared with analogous data for two ships that differ basically with respect to the fullness of their body lines.
