THE SLENDER BODY APPROXIMATION IN RADIATION AND DIFFRACTION PROBLEMS OF A SHIP WITH FORWARD SPEED

The application of slender body theory to oscillating ships is discussed from the viewpoint of a rational perturbation analysis. The results of this analysis constitute an extension of the author's interpolation theory--originally proposed for the case of zero forward speed--to the case of finite forward speed. Both radiation and diffraction problems are discussed, and computations of hydrodynamic forces and moments are compared with results of model experiments.
