DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF STATE-OF-THE-ART MAN B&W EXHAUST GAS TURBOCHARGERS AND POWER TURBINES
The author presents an overview of the MAN B&W turbocharger program. Two series have been developed: turbochargers with radial-flow turbines in the lower output range (approx. 300 to 2,500 Kw), and turbochargers with axial-flow turbines for the remaining output range. The basis for this division is the relationship of turbocharger efficiency to both frame size and design. For each series, there is a description of its development, design, components, operational principles, and special features. The paper concludes with a discussion of the applications, design features and state-of-development of the MAN B&W power turbine series.
