FISHING VESSEL STABILITY: A STATE OF ART REVIEW
This document contains four papers on fishing vessel stability. Paper 1 deals with international stability regulations applicable to fishing vessels. Paper 2 discusses stability requirements promulgated by France and the United Kingdom. Paper 3 describes research programs that have been set up in Norway, the United Kingdom (the SAFESHIP project), Canada and the United States (Coast Guard Fishing Vessel Safety Initiatives) to improve safety for ships in general, and for fishing vessels in particular. Paper 4 suggests that stability requirements of fishing vessels can be upgraded by taking into account ship design, operational procedures, and the environmental forces impacting on the vessel.
