This document is one of four reports on a series of scale model tests carried out at the Swedish Maritime Research Centre (SSPA) as part of the CAORF Panama Canal Study. The volume is divided into two parts. The first part describes the captive model tests which were performed for the purpose of mapping the basic force and moment interactions experienced by a Panamax bulk carrier in straight channels with steeply sloping banks. Detailed test data are contained in a separate appendix. The second part deals with captive tests involving two Panamax bulk carrier models in two-way traffic in two alternative straight channels. Measurements of the interference forces and the unsteady sinkage were made on one of the models. A series of example plots of the ships meeting in 650 and 750 feet channels are provided, and the main characteristics of the ship-to-ship interaction are discussed.
