In order to obtain rapidly the stress distribution, displacements and deformation of plastic zones in a rock mass around a proposed cavity or tunnel, it is possible to use the theory of perforated isotropic plates of infinite dimension. It is necessary to obtain a function characterizing as best as possible the section to be studied. The type of function to be derived is given in the article together with methods of exploiting the results obtained by means of formulae. /TRRL/
