MONT LOUIS ACCIDENT AND NUCLEAR SAFETY
On 25 August 1984, the French ship MONT LOUIS sank in the vicinity of Ostende as a result of a collision. She was carrying a cargo of 30 containers filled with uranium hexafluoride. All 30 containers were recovered; only one showed a small leak. Technical and regulatory implications of the lessons learned from this accident are discussed.
