LOOKING AT NAVAIDS IN THE NORTH SEA
The North Sea has become one of the busiest and most heavily exploited of marine areas. Shipping traffic density has greatly increased and offshore platforms have proliferated. Offshore service vessels and recreational boats add to the traffic. The author discusses the measures that have had to be taken to enable these various interests to coexist and to maintain navigational safety. He covers developments in traffic separation schemes, vessel traffic systems (VTS), visual aids, Loran-C, and Decca.
