DEVELOPMENTS IN NAVIGATION AND MEASUREMENT OF GRAVITY AT SEA
This paper reviews recent developments in methods of navigation and of measurement of gravity. The US Navy's satellite navigation method is described and various systems for interpolating between satellite fixes are discussed. Cross-coupling and off-levelling errors for surface ship gravimeters are examined. The principles of operation of the recently developed vibrating string and force balance type gravimeters are described.
