ON THE MANEUVERABILITY OF SIOJI-MARU III AND AN EXAMPLE OF MANEUVERING BOOKLET CONFORMING TO THE RECENT IMO RECOMMENDATION
Full-scale measurements on ship maneuverability in harbor waterways were conducted using the training ship SIOJI-MARU III. The tests of the items were the same as those recommended by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for inclusion in the revised maneuvering booklet. Captive- and free-running-model tests were also conducted and predictions of full-scale ship motions in harbor maneuvers were developed. The predicted results were found to be in good agreement with experimental results. The prediction method can therefore be put to practical use for estimating the maneuvering information to be included in the maneuvering booklet.
