MATERIALS FOR SEA WATER SHIPBOARD PIPELINES

This article discusses corrosion of sea water shipboard pipelines and associated equipment, and materials which can be used in lieu of steel or cast iron in order to prevent this corrosion, or at least delay it, and thereby prolonging the life of tubes, valves, and pumps. The nonferrous materials which can be used, a discussion of the corrosion process and different forms of corrosive attack, how and why the non-ferrous alloys resist sea water corrosion, and how a sea water system should be designed in order to best prevent corrosion from beginning are all discussed.
