A DESIGN METHOD FOR THE HEAVILY LOADED MARINE PROPELLER

After a brief statement of the current state-of-the-art in propeller design theory, a full description is given of the development of a design method for the heavily loaded propeller based on the work of Strscheletzky. The results are given for the application of the method to the propeller of a large single screw tanker and the effects of increasing thrust loading are demonstrated by considering a series of propellers covering a range of loading. Further comparisons are made between these results and those derived from design methods based on simpler theoretical models. (Author)
