TRIM COMPRESSED-AIR COST WITH SYNTHETIC LUBRICANTS
Synthetic lubricants in air compressors offer savings and benefits, particularly when well applied and combined with a continuing lubrication and maintenance program. Some of the advantages are: fewer oil changes; lower oil loss into the system; less wear; no carbon or varnish; lower power cost; corrosion resistance; and increased safety. The characteristics and applications of the synthetic lubricants are reviewed. Diester-based synthetics and polyalphaolefins are currently the most common choices for general air-compressor service. Changeover procedure details are given.
