THE CONTRIBUTION OF THE VEHICLE INDUSTRY TO THE FIGHT AGAINST NOISE

DER BEITRAG DER KRAFTFAHRZEUGINDUSTRIE ZUR LAERMBEKAEMPFUNG

An indication is given of some constructional features of two-wheeled vehicles, cars and lorries, which are designed to reduce sound levels both while the vehicles are stationary and when they are moving. These include modifications to ventilation and exhaust systems, the engine and transmission casing, and sound insulating materials for interior cladding. The economic considerations associated with this are discussed (for example the increase in weight and in fuel consumption). The need for uniform legislation within the vehicle industry (at least in Europe) is stressed, so that all manufacturers can incorporate noise reducing measures on the production line. /TRRL/
