PRESENT CONCEPT OF THE EFFECT OF WIND ON STRUCTURES

FORMA ACTUAL DE CONSIDERAR LA ACCION DEL VIENTO EN LAS ESTRUCTURAS

In the analysis of the effect of the wind on structures, two types of gusts must be taken into account: high-velocity long-lasting gusts liable to cause the greatest static effects, and those which, although slower, can create resonance phenomena in the structure and cause the greatest dynamic effects. A study is made of variations in the velocity of the wind as a function of the height and location of the structure and the effects of those variations depending on the geometry of the structure. Criteria are proposed for selecting the wind to be studied, which use statistical charts and tables. Lastly the dynamic and static effects of the wind are considered and formulae given for calculating these effects. /TRRL/
