A NEW APPROACH TO MEDIUM SPEED DIESEL ENGINE PRODUCTION AT STORK WERKSPOOR
Two items stand at the centre of the production reorganization at Stork-Werkspoor Diesel. These are the reduction of overall lead times and the obtaining of optimum stock extent. They have been crucial to the reduction of stock risks and the increase of turn-over speed. According to SWD, the total time between the decision to produce for stock and the delivery of a complete engine has now been shortened to an extent where the lead times for the majority of parts have been kept within the usual delivery times of the engines. As a result stock production now mainly relates to engines which have already been sold, allowing the extent of stock to be adapted exactly to actual sales requirements.
