FLEXURAL STRENGTH OF STEEL FIBRE REINFORCED CONCRETE

The tensile strength of concrete is generally neglected in the design of reinforced and prestressed concrete structures. The use of a fibrous concrete skin in structural members will enable the utilization of tensile stresses under working load conditions. Using a composite mechanics approach, equations are derived to predict the first crack and ultimate flexural strength of concrete reinforced with short, discontinuous steel fibres randomly orientated and uniformly distributed in the concrete. Design equations for flexural strength are presented which are valid for most types of fibrous concrete mixes likely to be encountered in practice. /Author/TRRL/
