This article gives an account of a range of blacktop manufacturing plants that are being run by Ermont in France. It includes a brief account of the dust removal equipment which involves the Ermont wet-process dust collector. Following dry dust removal, dust emissions as low as 0.150 gr/nm3, are claimed. Their mobile continuous mixers are discussed; they are designed for outputs of up to 200 tonnes/h and incorporate LCPC's pulse transmission meter for monitoring the bitumen and a mixer with a double heating envelope and removable liner made of cneusabro steel. Mobile automatic batch mixers are also dealt with. These have capacities from 40 to 100 tonnes/h and a similar mixer to the continuous mixers. The next part of the article is concerned with fixed and transportable mixing towers, which normally have capacities from 100 to 270 tonnes/h, but a recent model is capable of 350 tonnes/h. Dried and graded aggregate is stored in bins with facilities for level and temperature indicators. The mixers are similar to the mobile plants, and the control panel provides monitoring and remote-control facilities. Additional equipment will allow for cassette or punched card programming. This is followed by details of the heavy-duty continuous mixing plant for large jobs such as motorways and airport runways. This plant includes control of the flow of heat into the dryer by the preselected aggregate temperature and the servo-control of the re-injection of recovered fines. /TRRL/
