RESISTANCE OF HIGH-TENSILE COLD-WORKED RIBBED REINFORCEMENT TO FLUCTUATING LOADS

A series of rectangular concrete beams reinforced with high-tensile cold-worked ribbed bars-g.k. Tor-bar-as (A) continuous bars, and (b) jointed bars either lapped or welded, were subjected to fluctuating loads to determine the fatigue resistance under service conditions. The beams with jointed bars (b) had the joint in the bars symmetrical about the centre of a constant bending moment panel which contained no transverse reinforcement. The maximum deflections, and the various crack widths in the concrete at the level of the reinforcement were recorded. /TRRL/
