With the aid of Austrian accident statistics accident rates were worked out for the years 1961 - 1970 (proportion of traffic accidents involving injury related to population counts), and classified according to age groups and sex. Accident rates were interpreted for the following groups: pedestrians, cyclists, moped and motorcycle riders, car occupants, fatally injured persons, and those involved in accidents when under the influence of alcohol, likewise seperated according to age and sex. Results are discussed. The accident rate of both sexes is at its greatest during the years 15 - 24, but on the other hand this group has the smallest proportion of fatalities out of the total number of casualties. /TRRL/
