PROFIT IN USAGE OF SYNTHETIC SLEEPER
It has been recognized that synthetic sleepers made of glass-fiber reinforced foamed polyurethane are very durable to mechanical and load repetition and to corrosive environment, and that they can be manufactured in a large size with precise dimensions. They have been used for switches, bridges and nonconventional track structures such as directly fastened tracks in tunnels and on viaducts. This paper looks at the performance of the synthetic sleepers after ten years of use.
